Careers Advice

SMSJ provides a wide range of opportunities with a mixture of additional partners to enrich students’ learning about wider professional contexts and experiences outside of the classroom.  We believe this is an extremely important part of a young person’s development of what they want their future goals to be. By working with partners such as Enabling Enterprise and Middlesex University, students gain a greater knowledge of different career routes that they might want to explore, including information on apprenticeships, technical qualifications and recommended career paths for a wealth of different vocations.

Careers Advice at SMSJ is tailored to each student allowing all learners to leave the school in the best possible shape to help them achieve their future aspirations. Students are offered the opportunity to get one-to-one career advice and guidance and this means they will have the wisdom to begin making future choices that will help them achieve their aspirations.

In addition to this, our young people are offered a variety of career enrichment opportunities that allow them to gain an insight into higher education and further study. We work closely with neighbouring universities to run experiences with our young people in key areas such as enterprise, debating and presenting, all of which are extremely valued by employers. These experiences allow SMSJ students to become confident communicators, and critical thinkers, helping to really prepare them for the world of work.

We also work with agencies that provide work experience opportunities with blue-chip companies in Canary Wharf and the City of London. Currently, selected KS4 students partake in monthly work experience with an international insurance firm. Students gain abilities in important soft skills, such as coaching, running meetings and problem-solving. All of which can really help strengthen their CVs and applications so that they can achieve their future career goals.
