Year 8 Subject Preferences

Having completed the National Curriculum requirements, in Year 9 students have the opportunity to express their preferences for subjects that they would like to study in greater depth. Students will benefit from a weekly double lesson in these subjects which allows more time to explore areas they are passionate about and the potential for extended project-based learning activities.

We anticipate that the majority of students will then continue to study two out of three of these subjects when they complete the Options process in Year 9, but it is important to emphasise that selecting a subject to study in Year 9 does not stop a student choosing different subjects for GCSE. In fact, this process provides a great opportunity for students to pursue subjects that they want to study in greater depth but are not yet 100% certain that they want to select as a GCSE.  

Students will be asked to rank their preferences from each of the areas below and a third ‘free choice’. We will do our best to satisfy as many preferences as possible but this will be subject to timetable limitations.
