Year 8 Subject Preferences

Having completed Key Stage 3 Programmes of Study in Years 7 and 8, we are pleased to allow students to express a preference for three particular subjects they wish to study at greater depth in Year 9.

Our curriculum teams have planned bespoke Year 9 Programmes of Study with the benefit of increased time and opportunities for project-based learning, enrichment activities and study at greater depth.  This curriculum design also allows students to express their preferences for particular subjects in line with their personal passions and interests.

We anticipate that the majority of students will continue to study two out of three of these subjects at GCSE, but it is important to emphasise that selecting a subject to study in Year 9 does not prevent a student choosing different subjects for GCSE.  In fact, this process provides a great opportunity for students to pursue subjects that they want to study in greater depth but are not yet 100% certain that they want to select as a GCSE.

Students will need to rank their preferences from each of the areas below as well as a third ‘free choice’ from all the subjects.  We will do our best to satisfy as many preferences as possible, but this will be subject to timetable limitations.
