Enrichment
At SMSJ we believe that participation in enrichment is essential for all students: enhancing wellbeing; physical and emotional development and prospects for higher education and the workplace. Research highlights that enrichment opportunities provide vital opportunities for developing social connections. For these reasons, at SMSJ enrichment is an entitlement for all students.
On a Tuesday all secondary students take part in a 50-minute enrichment activity. Students' express preferences so that they can explore something new or extend their knowledge or existing expertise. Enrichment activities include Archbishop of York young leaders award, Art club, basketball, chess, coding club, calligraphy, debate club, DT club, further Maths, football, netball, tennis, textiles and ultimate frisbee. In addition, there are activities focused on working towards performing arts productions and specific enrichment opportunities for our Wisdom, Service and Hope ambassadors. Many activities are run by school staff and others are led by expert external providers.
This offer is supplemented by enrichment clubs that run on every other school day ensuring that students are not limited to one enrichment weekly.
