Year 9 GCSE Options Process 2026

The GCSE Options process is an exciting time for students and their parents/carers to turn to the next stage in their educational journey; considering which subjects they would like to study for the next two years.  Please see below an outline of the GCSE Options Process.

Week commencing Monday 26th January – Year 9 Options Subject Presentations

Year 9 students will have a series of assemblies about the GCSE courses available.  They will receive an overview of each subject from the Head of Department including brief details of curriculum content and methods of assessment. The GCSE Options process will be discussed further this half term, and our Year 10/11 Ambassadors will make themselves available to Year 9 for a week at breaktimes for questions and feedback.  

There will also be a Year 9 Options information booklet which will be sent electronically to parents and carers. 

Thursday 5th February – online Year 9 Parents’/Carers’ Consultation Evening

This will provide an opportunity to discuss your child's learning and progress based on their recent Autumn Term report and current performance.  This will help to inform your child’s decisions when making GCSE choices.

Friday 13^th February – Options Forms sent home  

An e-mail will be sent home which will contain a link to submit GCSE options by the deadline.  If you have any questions please email:  year9options@smsj.london.

Thursday 26^th February – Deadline for GCSE Options

The deadline for completion of the GCSE Options Form is Thursday 26th February.  It may be necessary for some families to discuss their choices in more detail once we have reviewed the submissions, and we will be in touch with you individually should this be the case.
